65-yr old man docked over alleged N19m fraud

A 65-year-old man, Nicholas Kolawole, who allegedly obtained vehicles worth N19 million from one Isiaka Abiodun under false pretences, was on Tuesday docked at an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Kolawole , a resident of Olodi Apapa area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining under false pretences.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Tony Elibeh, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 19 at No.133 Uzor St., Olodi Apapa, Lagos.

Elibeh said that the accused fraudulently obtained vehicles worth N19 million from Abiodun, on the pretext of buying a land for him and developing it as payment.

He said that Kolawole, instead of buying the land and developing it as promised, converted the money to his own personal use.

“When the complainant did not get any feedback from the accused, he decided to call him but Kolawole refused to pick his calls.

“Abiodun said that, after some days, he was able to get hold of the accused and when he requested for his money, Kolewole started deceiving him.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 312 prescribes 15-year jail term for obtaining under false pretences.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Titus Abolarinwa, granted the accused N200,000 bail, with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till May 11for trial.
