300 Indicted firms: EFCC arrests Jonathan’s associates

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested the owners of Oneplus Holding and Katakar Civil Engineering Company.

Oneplus Holding is listed among 300 companies recommended for further investigation by the Presidential panel probing contracts awarded by former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki.

According to Daily Trust, one Azibaola Roberts owner of Oneplus holdings and his colleague Dakoru Atukpa Executive Director, projects, of Katakar Civil Enginnerring Company are being detained by the EFCC for over two weeks.

It was learnt that the EFCC had on March 23rd 2016 arrested Robert, said to be a cousin of former President Goodluck Jonathan over alleged fund diversio through Oneplus Holding sister company Katakar Construction and Engineering Company.

According to sources, Roberts is being held to provide proof that he executed contracts and collected monies to the whopping sum of about N796 million ($4 million) for securing oil pipe lines.

However, Roberts speaking through his lawyers Gordy Uche (SAN) accused the EFCC of embarking on a vendetta mission against former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Uche in a statement said government still owes his client $4 million being balance of the contract sum for successfully securing oil pipelines.

He also challenged the EFCC to either charge his clients to court or release them on bail.

Uche argued that: “My client is being persecuted and punished because of his DNA, as a relative of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.”

He said its impunity and breach of their fundamental human rights to keep them in detention, pointing out that their bail conditions are impossible to make.

Uche said they are required to provide two Federal serving Directors each, with properties in Maitama or Asokoro and original of their Certificate of Occupancy.

The four directors are also required to present bail bonds of N250m each from reputable bank.

“Which serving Director in Nigeria today has property in Asokoro or Maitama districts, and can boast of N250 million?”, he asked.

“It’s like saying bring the bones of your grandmother alive before we grant you bail,” he added.

Uche stated that the annoying thing is that while we were working to fulfill the bail conditions the EFCC went to court and obtained a remand order.

This he says means the Commission never intended to grant them bail in the first place.

He pointed out that “If the NSA has a civil complaint against our client for ‘breach of contract’ and wants refunds of monies, the best thing to do is to file a civil complaint and allow an impartial judge to determine the case on merit.
