A 28-year-old woman was allegedly gang raped and her 14-day-old baby killed in front of her three year old daughter in India.
The mother was attacked by the driver and conductor of a bus, who forced alcohol down her throat and threw her baby son on the ground, the Times of India reported.
The woman’s daughter, who hid behind a seat on the bus while the attack was taking place, is believed to be the only person who witnessed the rape.
The attack took place in Shishgarh village in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh State.
Superintendent of Police, Yamuna Prasad, said: ‘Her child had been sick for sometime and she went to visit her sister to meet a tantrik [a healer].
‘She was returning to Rampur when she met the two accused at the bus station. She was allegedly raped inside the bus at the bus station. Later, she found her child dead.’
Two men have been arrested and charged with rape and culpable homicide.
According to local media, the men carried the victim out of the bus and left her on the road unconscious.
