A 39-year old man has been arrested for allegedly stealing N329,000 one week after he was employed at a popular filing Station in Lagos State, western Nigeria.
He was charged before Lagos Magistrate’s court sitting in Ejigbo where he was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri, Lagos.
The suspect, Idowu Ganiyu allegedly committed the offence at a popular filling station located at Igando road in Ikotun area of Lagos.
Ganiyu was seeking for a job to no avail until one of his relatives secured the filling station attendant job last year where he was in charge of selling petrol to motorists.
While he was selling and collecting money from the buyers, he was also keeping some to himself and did not render full account.
Unknown to him, the management was aware of what he sold through the meters and when he was asked about the balance, he denied.
Consequently, he was handed over to the police at Ikotun division where he reportedly confessed and said the money was not up to the amount the management was claiming.
When he could not bring the money, he was charged to court with stealing under the Criminal Code. Ganiyu pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistate, Mr A. A. Fashola granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Ganiyu was remanded in prison pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 24 Febuary, 2016.
