Trending: Nigerians mobilises support for #MadeInNigeria

On Tuesday, Nigerians took to Twitter to rally support for products that are made in Nigeria.
The expression of support came a day after Senate President Bukola Saraki inaugurated the Made In Aba Trade Fair in Abuja.

The Senate President had assured local manufacturers at the fair that the Senate would help promote their products by amending the Procurement Act.

Saraki later posted photos from his time at the fair on his Facebook page along with a short comment stating that he had fun at the fair.

His posts and tweets which were shared and retweeted by many others helped start a trend, #MadeInNigeria.

Using the hashtag, many tweeted photos of products ranging from locally made and packaged groundnuts and cashew nuts to clothing items and cars.

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce also joined in canvassing support for the products, tweeting pictures of a hat and shoes he bought from the Made In Aba fair earlier in the day.

Among those who joined in promoting Nigerian goods were car manufacturer Innoson Motors and Nollywood actress Uche Jombo Rodriguez who retweeted both Saraki and Murray-Bruce’s pledge to support made in Nigeria products.

As many promoted locally produced goods on the social media platform, some others had concerns about the products. While some questioned the quality, some others expressed concerns about the price.

Saraki had on Monday promised that the National Assembly would amend the Procurement Act “to ensure that Nigerian products are given first priority over their foreign counterparts in the procurement process.”
