Policemen attached to the Bori Police Divisional Headquarters in Rivers State have arrested a man with more than two thousand Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, suspected to have been stolen.
The suspect is from Nkoro in Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area, and is believed to be a member of one of the major political parties in Rivers State.
The man was reportedly intercepted with packs of PVCs at a police checkpoint on Unity Road, which links Opopo-Nkoro and Ogoni axis of the State.
A senior police officer attached to Bori Divisional Headquarter, who confirmed the arrest to our correspondent, said the PVCs were concealed in a travel bag.
A source who witnessed the incident told our correspondent that the man was arrested after he failed to explain to the police how he came about the bunch of PVCs.
The source said, ” the suspect was arrested when he was passing through the Unity road linking Opobo, Ogoni and Andoni. Some PVCs were intercepted from him numbering over 2000. He refused to say anything but the Police later took him to the Police Division at Bori.”
It would be recalled that before the 2015 general elections, it was reported that some hoodlums invaded Ward Ten in Nkoro and carted away PVCs meant for the area.
