A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital has ordered the remand of a 38-year-old man, Idowu Ajewole, in prison custody for allegedly killing his neighbour, Monday Bassey, over disagreement on a missing fowl.
The incident reportedly occurred on Adebowale Street, Oke-Aro area of Akure, Ondo State, on December 12, 2015.
According to the prosecution, the duo had a disagreement over an alleged theft of the accused’s fowl. Ajewole was reported to have found the feathers of the lost fowl at the apartment of the deceased when he (deceased) was packing out of the apartment.
The accused was said to have invited the police, who came to arrest the deceased.
But the accused allegedly pushed the deceased in the process of dragging him into the police vehicle, the deceased reportedly hit his head on the floor and he died as a result of an injury he sustained when he fell.
The police prosecutor, Mr. Pelumi Adejuwon, told the court that the action of the accused was responsible for the death of Bassey.
According to him, the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
