The Federal Government of Nigeria, on Monday, reiterated the need to play brotherly a role among all Africans to help build the sub-region economically.
The Minister of Transportation, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, made this known, while receiving a member of the World Meteorological Organisation Mr. Roberts O. Masters, who paid him a courtesy visit, on behalf of the world agency, to ascertain the position the Federal Government on citing the African version of the World Meteorological Organisation in the country.

The Director General, National Meteorological Agency, Dr. Chijioke Anthony Anuforo, pointed out the importance of the WMO office being sighted in Nigeria. He said that Nigeria having attained the International Standard Organisation (ISO) certification, that she stood a better chance of getting the office ahead of other African countries, who have declared interest in having the office.
According to Anuforo, there were other benefits, like educational opportunities, such aviation schools, facilities, creation of employments for Nigerians, as well as playing hosts to other African nations, which would be a major boost to the country’s aviation industry and the economy in general.
Anuforo said that Masters’ visit would be followed by the WMO inspection team that would soon be in the country to inspect the level of internet provision, road network, land mass and electricity provision.
He expressed belief in the ability of the Federal Government, which has held such opportunities for African countries trying to play brotherly role in rescuing the continent from serious challenges. The countries that are vying to unseat Nigeria at the World Meteorological Organisation, include, Kenya, Burundi, Ethiopia, Egypt and Tunisia.
