Pandemonium broke out on the floor of the House of Representatives on Tuesday when two members of the honourable House exchanged hot slaps.
Honourables Ali Madaki (APC – Kano) and Herman Hembe (APC – Benue) had a go at each other over the contentious issue of choice committees, with supporters on both sides scrambling to separate the fight.
Reports say the fisticuffs occurred in the White House in the National Assembly, before the commencement of the day’s proceedings.
The warring members are said to be in the opposing camps of Speaker Yakubu Dogara and House Majority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, who are both members of the All Progressives Congress.
It will be recalled that the Speaker had earlier inaugurated 96 standing committees in the House, with supporters of the Majority Leader accusing him (Dogara) of sidestepping the leadership of the House in appointment of the Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen of the committees.
Many supporters of the Majority Leader had vehemently kicked against what they described as the Speaker’s unhealthy romance with the members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the House.
It took the intervention of the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Yusuf Lasun, before the situation was brought under control.
