War: Israel begins military operations in Rafah, 12 killed

Israeli forces on Monday began a military operation in the city of Rafah, Gaza Strip. Officials said Israeli forces are striking targets in Rafah city, AP news reports.

About 12 people have been killed in the attack that happened overnight. The attack comes hours after Hamas announced it had accepted an Egyptian-Qatari cease-fire proposal.

But, the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said that the proposal was “far from Israel’s essential demands.”

Netanyahu said it would nonetheless send negotiators to continue talks on a cease-fire agreement Earlier Monday, Israel’s War Cabinet decided to push ahead with a military operation in Rafah.

The Israeli military said it was conducting “targeted strikes” against Hamas in Rafah without providing details.
