Security operatives have taken over the Rivers State House of Assembly complex following an explosion in the facility.

It has been reported that an explosion rocked the Rivers State House of Assembly complex on Sunday night, with some properties in the chamber said to have been destroyed.

It was gathered that the incident was said to have occurred when some suspected arsonists threw an explosive into the complex around 9:30 pm, thereby causing a fire outbreak in the assembly building.

This is coming amidst rumours of alleged moves by some lawmakers to impeach the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, over his clash with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

However, according to Leadership, more than 50 security operatives drawn from the Nigerian Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) have taken over the Assembly Complex and the entire street of the legislative building.

The security operatives, however, advised motorists and other road users, on Monday morning, to use alternative routes to their destinations.

Also, about 17 security trucks and four Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) were stationed at the entrance and surroundings of the assembly complex.
