The national leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has confirmed the half salary paid to its members.

It was earlier reported that the Federal Government on Thursday paid members of ASUU half of their October salary.

The lecturers who called off their strike on the 14th of October were paid for 17 days of service.

Recall that ASUU called off its industrial action which started on the 14th of February in October.

ASUU, in its reaction to the development, noted that it will meet soon to take appropriate steps regarding the payment of half salary to its members.

The National President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, in a chat with Vanguard on Thursday, noted that members of ASUU were not expecting such payment from the Federal Government.

The hope of the lecturers to receive their salary for their eight months of the strike was dashed on Thursday.

Osodeke further stated members of the union would meet to deliberate on the development and thereafter take appropriate actions.

The ASUU President while expressing his displeasure at the decision of the Federal Government to pay half salary said, “Yes, we were paid half salary for October and that is not what we expected. However, as an organised union, we are meeting soon to deliberate on the issue and take appropriate actions.”
