THE Nigerian Customs Services (NCS) has deactivated the Five Star Logistics Limited’s terminal at the Tin Can Island port from its online portal over a N97.3 million debt.
According to a report, this was disclosed by the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) and confirmed by the Customs Service.
The Customs Service said the condition for unblocking the company’s access is the payment of the debt.
The acting president of the ANLCA, Kayode Farinto, said its members are not able to operate at the terminal.
“It has been brought to the notice of the National Executive Committee (NECOM) that our members cannot exit the released vehicles and cargoes from the Five Star Logistics.
“This is because the terminal operator has been deactivated from the Customs portal due to unpaid assessment running into millions of naira,” he said.
Farinto urged agents to be calm and law-abiding and to keep the receipts of all payments during the period.
Uche Ejesieme, the public relations officer, TinCan Island Port Command, who confirmed the deactivation to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN that the terminal owed up to N97.3 million in unpaid assessment.
Ejesieme noted that it was in the cause of examination of certain transactions that the matter came up.
“On July 7, the exit access of the Five Star Logistics was blocked by the Nigerian Customs Service following an investigation which revealed an unpaid assessment to the tune of N97.3 million,” Ejesieme said.
