The Nigeria Police Force has said its men alongside officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) have recaptured most of the inmates who escaped from Kuje Prison.

News360 Info had earlier reported that terrorists on Tuesday night invaded the Medium Security Custodial Centre and released not less than 600 prisoners.

Speaking on the attack, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the police collaboration with the Correctional Service helped in re-arresting the fleeing inmates.

Adejobi stated that the police have commenced an investigation into the attack and police officers are part of the security operatives on the ground at the scene of the incident.

The police spokesman noted that the Force has deployed personnel as well as helicopters on aerial surveillance of the prison area.

He told The Punch, “We are working with the Correctional Service and we have been able to re-arrest the fleeing inmates. We have done our deployment and we are still on the ground so that we will be able to have a detailed investigation into the incident.

Our specialized units have been sent to the place to get more facts concerning the incident. We are working round the clock to make sure we get to the root of the matter.

Whether this event or not, we will always fly our helicopters for area surveillance. Our pilots will still work to assist in area surveillance to see where the inmates will be hiding”.
