According to reports, the Nasarawa state-born passed away at his home on Friday after a protracted illness.
It was learned that Akwanga was taken to his hometown to be buried according to Islamic rites.
The deceased served as Minister under former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration in 2003. However, he was sacked during a cabinet reshuffle by Obasanjo.
In 2017, he was kidnapped on his farm in Kurmin Tagwaye village, near Akwanga, but was released two days later after paying a huge ransom to his abductors.
Confirming his death, Deputy Chairman of Akwanga LGA, Safiyanu Isa, said that as soon as the former Minister was declared dead, he was taken for burial according to Islamic rites in his hometown.
