The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has urged the general public to report parents using children to beg for alms on the street.

Ms Julie Okah-Donli, NAPTIP Director-General, made the call  in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.

She noted that such behaviour endangers the lives of children and exposes them to hazardous conditions.

“The idea of using children for alms begging is hazardous and dangerous to the lives of such children.

“I call on members of the public to be aware of their environments and report such cases to NAPTIP,’’ she said.

Okah-Donli assured that the perpetrators would be diligently prosecuted.

NAN reports that NAPTIP recently secured the conviction of three persons by the Federal High Court, Enugu, for various child trafficking offences. (NAN)
