The House of Representatives has summoned the management of MTN, Glo, Airtel, Etisalat and Intels to appear on Wednesday over the massive job losses in the telecoms sector.

The five companies are expected to respond to “queries on their failure to remit to government coffers, actual taxes as a result of their activities in Nigeria”.

The House Committee on Telecommunications is chaired by Saheed Fijabi (APC, Oyo).

The lawmaker said service providers have been asked to prepare to give reasons for their recent actions.

Fijabi explained that the latest summon followed failure of the CEOs of the companies to honour previous invitations.

He, however, stated that the green chamber will not take further snub lightly.

Fijabi warned that the committee would not accept representatives of the CEOs because such persons cannot provide satisfactory explanations.

Recall that in April, MTN disengaged 280 of its employees in Nigeria

Staff affected include some 200 permanent employees and about 80 contract staff across various cadres, ranging from new graduates to senior managers.
