PDP staff reject Sheriff order to resume work

Establishment staff of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said they are casualties of the ongoing power struggle in the party, and therefore, are not in a hurry to return to work until all issues relating to the leadership crisis were resolved.
The workers also told the Court of Appeal reinstated National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff that the February 17 court judgement was being implemented in breach.
Sheriff had told the workers, after the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting last Wednesday, to return to work immediately at the PDP National Secretariat.
But at a press conference Monday, the 127- member staff comprising staff of the PDP National Secretariat and the Peoples Democratic Institute (PDI) said they were harassed and intimidated by demonstrators and protesters when they complied with the Federal High Court judgement on June 4 last year, and reported to work at the National Secretariat.
The Director of Administration, Alhaji Gurama Bawa, who read the text of the press conference, said the workers “were violently chased out of the offices, many had to run away leaving their ‎personal belongings which we understand have now been vandalised by ‎unknown persons.‎”
According to the workers, they were desirous of resuming work but are concerned about their safety.
