A man is facing life in prison after he murdered his wife, her sister and their father.
Samuel Velasco Gurrola first killed his father-in-law and sister-in-law in order to lure her to their funerals so that he could murder her.
He employed the services of his two siblings to carry out the murder in El Paso, Texas, in 2008.
Texas prosecutors say Velasco was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child and wanted to stop his wife, Ruth Sagredo Escobedo, from testifying.
He hired a hitman in Mexico to kill his father-in-law, Francisco Maria Sagredo Villareal, in his first bid to draw her to his funeral in Ciudad Juarez – a Mexican city that borders El Paso
But that plan failed so he tried again with his sister-in-law, Cinthia Sagredo Escobedo.
This time he was successful and he killed Ruth during the funeral.
Gurrola of El Paso was convicted last week of conspiracy to commit murder in a foreign country and conspiracy to cause foreign travel for murder for hire.
Two of his relatives pleaded guilty to conspiracy-related counts and face up to life terms.
