Two Dead, 22 Missing After Indian Bridge Collapses

0

At least 22 people are missing and feared dead after a bridge in western India collapsed Tuesday night on the highway between Mumbai and Goa.

Rescue operations, hindered by heavy rain, are still underway and the bodies of two victims have been recovered, officials were cited as saying by the Times of India. About a dozen vehicles, including two buses, reportedly fell into the river below when the bridge — build during British colonial rule — gave way.

Around 80 members of India’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are engaged in the hunt for survivors, while traffic on the busy highway has been diverted to another bridge nearby.
