THE Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, MWUN, Monday, shutdown the Central Zonal Offices of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, in Warri, Delta State.
The workers alleged perceived marginalization and inability to engage the union members in labour matters relating to the Federal Government establishment, as well as depriving them of their dues.
MWUN accused NIMASA of allegedly recruiting unqualified personnel to work in the industry.
The protest began with the closure of the Seafarers Standard along Warri-Sapele Road near 3rd Marine Gate, then the Central Zonal Office near Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force as well as Maritime Labour Offices of NIMASA at the Warri Port, all in Warri.
The workers accused an official of illegally crewing over 15 new ships out of its domain without its permission.
The MWUN members carried placards with inscriptions such as “Seafearers legitimate workers have been hijacked by NIMASA,” “Enough is Enough.”
