Police RRS arrest 854 suspects for crimes in Lagos in 6 months

The Rapid Respond Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday said it had arrested 854 suspects for various crimes in different parts of Lagos metropolis in six months.

The RRS Commander, ACP Olatunji Disu, who made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ikeja, said some of the suspects were arrested during raids of some black spots.

He added that others were arrested while allegedly carrying out other crimes in the period spanning from June to November.

On traffic robberies which had assumed an increasing dimension, Disu said that their attention had been drawn to it and that 84 persons had been arrested so far.

Giving a breakdown, he said that 46 suspects were arrested in gridlock at Mile 2, 11 at Ojota and four at Ijora.

He said five others were nabbed at Ketu, two on the Lagos Island, two in FESTAC Town, 13 at Orile and one at Abiola Garden, Ikeja.

The commander said that 200 hoodlums were arrested at Oshodi raids, including 23 juveniles, adding that 300 others were arrested at Oyingbo, Mushin, Idi-Oro, Ijora and other areas.
Disu said within the period, 36 suspected members of secret cults were arrested at Agege, Dopemu, Ile-Zik and Mangoro areas.

He added that 15 others were arrested at Mushin and eight in Akala.

Disu said 250 pedestrians were arrested for not using the pedestrian bridge at Ketu, while 504 suspects were picked up at some black spots.

He said that 20 suspects were equally arrested for allegedly snatching phones, jewelleries and other items from members of the public.

The commander said 10 suspects were arrested for allegedly vandalising NNPC Pipelines, adding that three others were nabbed for impersonating the police.

“Five suspected fraudsters were arrested for collecting some amount of money from members of the public under false pretences.

“Two vehicles were also recovered from suspected armed robbers within same period,’’ Disu said. (NAN)
