Lawyer Threatens To Sue Buhari If He Denied Licence To Own AK-47

A human rights activist, Malcolm Emokiniovo Omirhobo, has threatened to file legal action against President Muhammadu Buhari over the issuance of a licence to own an assault rifle for self-defence.

Omirhobo had in a letter dated July 8, 2021, with the caption, “Application for licence to possess and own a 6.147 Premium AK47 Assault Rifle,” requested the president to approve the possession of assault rifles for individuals to defend themselves, families and property from unlawful violence from armed criminals.

Speaking with a source from Daily Trust, the lawyer said he was prepared to challenge the president in court on this matter in the coming days.

“I am a law-abiding Nigerian, medically fit and of sound mind. I am a person of temperate habits and I have not for the previous five years been convicted of an offence involving violence or its threat,” he said.
