FRSC boss tasks motorists on traffic discipline

Motorists have been urged to maintain a high degree of discipline and respect for other road users while driving on the highways to ensure reduction in road crashes, especially during the ember months and yuletide season.

The Dutsen Alhaji Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), Henry Igwe, gave the advice at the flag off of the 2015 Ember Months Road Safety Campaign in Gwarinpa, Abuja,

He emphasized that the advocacy tagged, “Operation Sanity: Drive Safely into 2016” has become necessary in view of the heightened economic activities and movement of passengers and cargoes which often characterize the period.

Igwe said the campaign is aimed at engaging the minds of stakeholders and all road users on the overall demand on both individuals and groups to continually contribute their quota in reducing the figures of road traffic crashes and deaths across the country.

According to the FRSC boss, road traffic crashes are not mere occurrences but largely human, which can be mitigated and reduced through conscious efforts by building good road user attitude, including strict adherence to traffic rules.

“All we need to do on our highways is to examine our driving persona to purge ourselves of any unhealthy practices and enlist ourselves as vanguards of discipline and promoters of road safety advocacy,” he added.

While advising motorists to plan their journeys and watch out for black spots, especially bad portions of the roads, the FRSC boss pledged the readiness of the corps to deploy equipment and personnel across the country to ensure free passage of commuters throughout the ember months.
