EFCC detains Fani-Kayode over N840m campaign fund

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday detained a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode.

Fani-Kayode, who served as the spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, was detained by the EFCC over N840 million he received as campaign funds from another former Minister, Nenadi Usman.

Usman, who was the Director of Finance of the PDPPCO, was said to have been given N2.5 billion, which she disbursed to several chieftains of the PDP, including Fani-Kayode.
Fani-Kayode, who was invited officially by the EFCC on Friday, arrived at the Commission’s office in Abuja on Monday at about 9:45am.

The money doled out by Usman for the campaign was traced by the EFCC to the account of the National Security Adviser domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria.
As at 9pm on Monday, Fani-Kayode was still with operatives of the EFCC.
