Driver, conductor docked for alleged theft of goods valued at N15.1m

A truck driver, Mohammed Abubakar and his conductor, Adam Yunusa , were on Thursday charged with the theft of a truck and goods , both valued at N15.1 million before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. The accused: Abubakar,55, and Yunusa,28, are facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and unlawful damage.

The Prosecutor, Sgt Tubi Olajide, told the court that the duo committed the alleged offences on Nov. 11, at 8 a.m., in Ikoyi area of Lagos State. He alleged that the accused stole a truck with registration number RMG 48 SA along with 900 bags of sugar worth N5.6 million.

Olajide said that the truck which was valued at N9.5 million belonged to Dangote Group of Companies “The total amount of goods stolen was N15. 1 million,’’ he said. He said that the offences contravened Sections 285 (1), 337, and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded innocent of the charge. The Magistrate, Mrs S.K Omatepo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N1 million each with two sureties each in like sum. She ordered that the sureties must reside in Lagos and their addresses verified by the court prosecutor. Omatepo adjourned the case to Dec.14 for mention.
