Businessman bags 30 months in prison for insulting Adamawa Governor

A businessman in Adamawa state has been jailed for 30 months for insulting the state Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

A chief Magistrate court in Yola convicted and sentenced Ali Yakubu Numan, to two and a half years in prison for calling Governor Fintiri ‘Father of all thieves.’

He was jailed with the option of N50,000 for publishing insulting statements against the Governor on Social media. He was also sentenced to 6 months imprisonment without the option of fine for ‘disturbance of public peace.’

Numan was arraigned for defamation by the Attorney-General of the State.

He had described Governor Fintiri as ‘A thief and father of all thieves,’ in a series of statements published in Hausa and Fulfulde on the 11th, 12th, 13th, 17th, 20th and 29th July 2021 on his Facebook Page.

He described Governor Fintiri in the publication as “a thief and father of all thieves in Nigeria” who stole indomie, spaghetti, and hundreds of billions of naira from state coffers.
