Azerbaijan’s Aviation Administration said its cargo plane crashed in Afghanistan’s southern Helmand province killing seven of the nine people on board.
It said on Thursday in Baku said the plane crashed on Wednesday at 6:30pm (1430 GMT) as it was taking off from Dwyer airport in Helmand, where contingents of American and Afghan military forces were based.
It said in a statement that five Azerbaijanis, three Ukrainians and one Uzbek were on board.
There was no word about the condition of the survivors or the cause of the crash.
The news came amid the crash of an EgyptAir plane going from Paris in France to Cairo, Egypt.
Sixty-six persons were on board the aircraft.
All 66 have been confirmed dead.
