Kanu’s Imprisonment In Sokoto Means Biafra Has Come – Family

The family of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has revealed he spoke years ago about being held in Sokoto and linked it to what they described as the coming freedom of Biafra.

News360 Info reports that they made this known during a memorial gathering held at the family compound in Afaraukwu on February 14, 2026, to mark the burial anniversary of Kanu’s parents.

The event was organised by Biafra veterans under the name Great Great Concerned Elders.

Kanu’s father, HRM Eze Israel Okwu Kanu, and his mother, Ugoeze Kanu, died in October 2017 after soldiers carried out an operation at their home.

They were later buried on February 14, 2020. The family believes the incident and its aftermath led to their deaths.

Speaking at the event, Kanu’s younger brother and family spokesman, Prince Emma, said that over eight years ago, his brother had told them that if he was ever taken to Sokoto, it would mean that their long struggle was nearing success.

He described Kanu as someone who prefers peaceful engagement and dialogue rather than violence.

Emma said the family would continue to stand by him and would not give up until he regains freedom. He added that those involved in his arrest and detention would not find peace.

At the graveside of their parents, the family offered prayers, calling on God and nature to act against anyone they believe played a role in Kanu’s imprisonment.

They also declared that if any member of their own family worked against the Biafra cause for personal gain, they should also face consequences.

Speaking at the event, Kanu’s younger brother and family spokesman, Prince Emma, said, “Nnamdi Kanu predicted many years ago that any day he will get to Sokoto, we should know that the achievement of Biafra has come.

“If having Biafra is the last resort, let it be. Our parents are in the grave because of what they believe in, and we will not let them down.

“Mazi Kanu believes in dialogue, not in guns and bullets; and until he comes out from prison, the family will not rest. All who kidnapped the IPOB leader have not had peace since then.

“Those who conspired against this family, against Nnamdi Kanu, against Biafra, heaven and earth will be against you.

“If we have hands in the matter as Kanu family for Biafra not to come, and collected money to ensure Biafra doesn’t materialize, the land should not protect us, heaven will not protect us.”
