Police arrest 15 criminal suspects disguised as commercial motorcyclists in Plateau

The Plateau State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its fight against insecurity with the arrest of fifteen suspected criminal elements who have been posing as commercial motorcyclists across the state.

It also said the Command acted on credible intelligence about an influx of criminal‑minded individuals, and raided several locations and detained the suspects, who match the description of members of a notorious gang that infiltrated legitimate motorcycle operators, covering their faces with masks while they operated.

This was disclosed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, in a press statement made available to journalists in Jos, the State capital, saying the operation, which is still ongoing, aims to make further arrests.

It reads: “In line with the Plateau State Government’s efforts to restore peace and security, a total ban was recently imposed on the operation and activities of commercial motorcyclists in the state.

“However, the police have observed that some individuals are still flouting this order, endangering innocent citizens.

“We wish to warn those who migrated from other States of the Federation to Plateau with ulterior motives to abort their evil plans and immediately leave the State, as the police have launched a massive manhunt for them.

“We will not hesitate to take the full wrath of the law against anyone found to be involved in any criminal activity.”

He said the suspects were currently in custody and undergoing interrogation, and would be charged to court once investigations were completed.

The statement added that the State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, appealed to the public for cooperation.

“We appeal to members of the public to cooperate with the Police by providing useful and timely information that will lead to the apprehension of these criminals.

“We assure you that your identity will be protected, and together, we can make Plateau State a safer place for all”, he assured.
