Trump ignores UK Prime Minister, pushes Ukraine’s defence responsibility to Europe

United States of America, President Donald Trump has clearly stated that it is up to Europe to provide security guarantees for Ukraine, and there will be no guarantees of Washington’s involvement.

He made the comments during his first cabinet meeting and ahead of meeting UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in the White House.

Ahead of the talks, Starmer has stressed his call for a US security guarantee in Ukraine to deter Vladimir Putin from invading again.

However, Trump’s reaction means Starmer stands alone in his call.

In a related development, Trump’s first cabinet meeting confirmed that President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit the Oval Office on Friday to sign a “very big” agreement on sharing Ukraine’s mineral resources.

Meanwhile, Zelensky has described the bilateral deal as preliminary and has said he wants further agreements that include US security guarantees to deter renewed Russian aggression.

Earlier, Trump hinted that the US secured a billion-dollar minerals deal with Ukraine.
