Mr Solomon Arase (rtd.), a former inspector general of police, was confirmed by the Senate as the next chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) a day after his nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari was revealed.

Senator Jika Halliru (Bauchi Central), who chairs the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, gave Arase the green light to proceed with his nomination yesterday, and the Senate unanimously agreed.

Senator Halliru, who presented the committee’s findings to the full Senate, remarked that Arase had done an admirable job during the screening process and demonstrated his qualifications to serve as the commission’s head.

The Senate unanimously approved the report, and the former Police IG was confirmed as the permanent chairman of the Police Service Commission.

President Ahmad Lawan read a letter from Buhari to the Senate on the floor on Tuesday, in which the president requested that the Senate review and vet Buhari’s candidate for the position of Chairman of the Police Service Commission.

However, the Senate’s plenary session has been postponed to February 28, 2023, following the results of the presidential election.
