I Won’t Stop Criticising Buhari Until Killings By Fulani Herders Stop In Benue — Governor Ortom

Samuel Ortom, the Benue State Governor, has explained why he will not stop President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

He said he will not stop criticising President Buhari’s administration until killings stop in his state.

This comes as Buhari asked Ortom to acknowledge his administration’s capital projects in his state.

The President on Thursday told Ortom that rather than cast only aspersions, he should speak about the good deeds of the present government, whenever he (Ortom) engages the media to criticise the APC-led administration.

This, according to Buhari, should be done in good faith to demonstrate a working democracy.

Represented by the House committee chairman on tertiary education, Mr Aminu Suleiman Goro during the inauguration of four projects at the Federal University of Agriculture in Makurdi, the President said his administration will continue to encourage entrepreneurship education in universities to help produce wealth creators.

However, while speaking on Saturday, October 1st, 2022 at the Independence Day Interdenominational Church service organised by the state government in conjunction with the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, in Makurdi, Ortom said he holds nothing personal against Buhari.

According to the governor, he only criticises Buhari for not being able to end the killings in the state and Nigeria.

He said as long as the people of Benue are being killed by suspected Fulani herders and militias amid the federal government’s failure to stop it, “I will not stop criticising until the killings stop”.

“Why has the Buhari-led Federal Government not disarmed Fulani herdsmen who bear sophisticated weapons and kill innocent people but have continued to deny lawful state security agencies the right to acquire arms to protect lives and property?

“I am not elected to preside over dead people and would therefore continue to strongly criticize the Federal Government as long as it fails in its constitutional role of providing security for citizens,” he said

The governor stressed that there must be justice, equity and fairness for the country to progress.
