Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are mounting pressure on the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike over his call for the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu to resign from office.

The camp of Governor Wike had insisted on Ayu resigning from office over Northern dominance in the party.

However, the camp of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar had stated that Ayu would remain in office, with him gaining the support of some state chairmen of the party.

Wike as part of demands to end the crisis rocking the PDP and support Atiku had noted that Ayu must resign from office.

A source that spoke with The Nation on the crisis in the main opposition party said the PDP governors are working on ending the differences between Atiku and Wike before the commencement of the campaigns on September 28.

The PDP Governors’ Forum Director-General, CID Maduabum, confirmed that the Governors who met last on June 8 in Abuja, would meet again.

Maduabum while speaking on the proposed meeting, said: “Yes, I can confirm to you that moves are being made in that direction and consultations are ongoing to ensure its fruition. We are positive that this will be achieved in a matter of days.”

The source noted that the governors will succeed in convening the meeting because the majority of them have accepted in principle to attend.
