The Defence Headquarters on Thursday disclosed that about thirty terrorists were killed and their hideout destroyed in the Bwari area of Abuja by troops.

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Bernard Onyeuko, made this known at the bi-weekly news conference on military operations on Thursday in Abuja held at the Defence Headquarters’ new conference room.

He said Troops of 7 Guards Battalion and 167 Special Force Battalion in conjunction with the air component of Operation WHIRL PUNCH carried out the operation between 24 and 26 July.

Apart from killing the terrorists, their enclaves and hideouts were also destroyed while several items were recovered.

The killed terrorists are part of those responsible for the ambush attack on the presidential guards brigade in the Bwari area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Sunday, Naija News reports.

Onyeuko revealed that “troops of 7 Guards Battalion and 167 Special Force Battalion in conjunction with the air component of Operation WHIRL PUNCH conducted a clearance patrol around Bwari general area between 24 – 26 July 2022.

“Troops successfully cleared Kawu and Ido villages.

Consequently, about 30 terrorists were neutralized and their enclave and hide-out destroyed. Ground troops also recovered 6 x motorcycles, 2 x AK47 rifles, 1 x fully loaded LMG magazine amongst others during mop up.”

Onyeuko however urged residents to report any suspicion to the nearest security post, noting that this will further help in securing the lives and property of the people.

In his words, “the hierarchy of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies wishes to reassure Nigerians of its commitment and pact with all Nigerians.

With the recent operations carried out from July 23, we wish to assure residents of FCT in particular that we are undaunted and unrelenting in our efforts to ensure the safety of lives and properties.

People should go about their normal business as their safety is guaranteed.

The support and cooperation of all Nigerians is hereby solicited as security is everybody’s business.

Citizens are encouraged to report unusual persons in your community to security agencies. If you see something, say something.’’
