Court Grants Okorocha Permission For Medical Trip To UK

The lawmaker representing Imo West Senatorial district, Rochas Okorocha has been granted permission by a Federal High Court in Abuja to travel to the United Kingdom for medical attention.

Following the order, Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo on Wednesday directed the Registrar of the court to release Okorocha’s travelling passport.

The former Governor of Imo State was permitted to travel to the UK following an application filed before the court by Ola Olanipekun (SAN) stating that Okorocha has been having health challenges in recent times.

Olanipekun promised that his client will not abuse the order and will return to the country for his trial.

The counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Chile Okoroma who had opposed the move, soft-pedalled when Justice Ekwo explained that the request would be granted with a caveat by the court.

Justice Ekwo directed the former Governor of Imo State to return his travelling passport to the court registrar no later than three days after he arrived in the country.

He warned that he would declare Okorocha wanted if he fails to obey the directives.

Justice Ekwo thereafter fixed November 7 for Okorocha’s trial in the money laundering criminal charges filed against him.
