Ekweremadu’s Wife, Beatrice Reportedly Held In Europe’s Largest Female Jail

Reports have emerged that Mrs Beatrice, the wife of embattled former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, is currently being locked up at the HMP Bronzefield prison in the United Kingdom.
Naija News reports that Ekweremadu and his wife were both apprehended in June 2022 by the London Metropolitan Police for allegedly conspiring to take a child to the UK for organ harvesting.

The couple were subsequently arraigned and tried at the Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court in London.

The senator and his wife had applied for bail but were denied as the prosecutors reportedly informed the court that Ekweremadu procured a passport for the boy and claimed he was 21 years old only to discover that he was 15 years old.

The case has been adjourned to July 7 at Westminster Magistrate Court to enable the UK Attorney General, Suella Braverman, to determine whether the case will be tried in the country or in Nigeria, Naija News understands.

However, SaharaReporters in an exclusive report on Monday gathered that Beatrice is currently being held at the largest female jail in Europe.

The said jail, HMP Bronzefield is located on the outskirts of Ashford in Surrey, England.

The adult and young offender female prison according to reports, is the only purpose-built private prison solely for women in the UK.

Findings revealed also that the prison facility accommodates 572 women and comprises four house blocks housing approximately 130 women each.

“Each wing has a servery unit for women to collect their food which they can choose to eat together on the wing or take back to their cells. We provide telephones in each room which is integral in helping women to maintain their family ties,” the Sodexo Justice Services revealed on its website.

“The women are unlocked at 08:00hrs for breakfast and to receive any medication they may require. At 09:00hrs the women will go to their lessons or work. They will break for lunch at 12:00hrs for two hours. In the afternoon they will return to their work location. At 16:30hrs the women will return to their houseblocks for association and dinner before lock up at 18:45hrs,” it added.

Meanwhile, Ekweremadu had maintained that Davido Ukpo offered to donate one of his kidneys to his daughter, Sonia.

The Enugu senator made this known through his lawyer, Adegboyega Awomolo stating that his daughter has been suffering from kidney failure and managing it for about five years.

Speaking at the Abuja Federal High Court on Friday, Awomolo said Ukpo informed Ekweremadu that he was 21 years old.

According to the Lawyer, Ekweremadu supported the visa application of Ukpo to the UK with a letter to the British High Commission in Nigeria, explaining the purpose of the visit.

However, after conducting various medical tests, the hospital decided that Ukpo was not suitable because his kidney is not compatible with Sonia’s.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria said Ukpo was asked to return to Nigeria after the test, but he approached the UK authorities and sought to be prevented from returning to Nigeria.
