The United Nations Children’s Fund has said that Nigeria is off the track in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal which is quality education.

The international agency’s representative, Saadhna Panday-Soobrayan said this yesterday June 9, at the Transforming Education Summit organised by the National Universities Commission in Abuja.

Soobrayan also said that the Coronavirus pandemic exacerbated the fragility of Nigeria’s education systems which was already struggling with poor access to quality learning and low resilience to shock.

“Additionally, frequent attacks on schools – including abduction of children, who should always be safe in school, has also resulted in prolonged school closures and is contributing to high rates of out of school children and low learning outcomes.”

Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu on his own part said the education curriculum being developed would focus on skills and entrepreneurship to enhance the employability of graduates.
