2023: What Tinubu Told APC Presidential Screening Committee

Presidential aspirant and former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that he is qualified to emerge as the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections.

Tinubu stated this on Monday during his screening by the John Oyegun-led Presidential Screening Committee at the Tasncopet Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

The Committee would be screening the 23 aspirants contesting to be President of Nigeria on the platform of the ruling APC.

Tinubu, who featured on Day One of the screening, stated his achievements in Lagos State qualify him to emerge as the ruling party’s flagbearer, adding that his success as governor is there for all to see.

The presidential hopeful said while he was in office, he raised the internal revenue generation of the state from a paltry N600M monthly, which has now grown to N51Billion today.

He also cited his invitation to Enron to begin the first state-backed power generation in Nigeria and spoke on how Nigeria will need to treat the power transmission lines as a highway.

Despite the petition written against him, Tinubu is believed to have been cleared by the committee to contest the June 6 presidential primary scheduled to hold at the EaglSquare, Abuja

Recall that a member of the party, Sagir Mai Iyali, had petitioned the screening committee to disqualify the national leader of the party over alleged certificate forgery.

Iyali in the petition forwarded to the chairman of the presidential screening committee, John Odigie-Oyegun said Tinubu never graduated from the University of Chicago.

He added that the former governor lied about his age and state of origin, stating that Tinubu shouldn’t be allowed to participate in the June 7 primary of the party.

The academic qualifications of the former Governor of Lagos State have been a subject of controversy for over a decade.

Tinubu had indicated he graduated from the University of Chicago in his INEC form 001 filled when he contested the Lagos State governorship poll in 1999.

The presidential aspirant also stated that he lost his university degree certificate while he was in exile between 1994 and 1998.
