Former President Goodluck Jonathan says restructuring alone will not help solve the security and other challenges facing the country.

Plans to draft former President Goodluck Jonathan as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus presidential candidate is still well underway.

This is as the Fulani group, which obtained the APC’s N100m presidential nomination and expression of interest forms for Jonathan,  said on Thursday that it would submit the forms on Friday, according to The PUNCH.

Recall that Jonathan had rejected the party’s nomination form procured for him by a coalition of northern herders.

In a statement by his spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze, the former leader said he has no affiliation with the said Fulani group that purchased the presidential forms in his name.

Reports had emerged that the former president had joined the ruling party and was willing to contest the presidential election if some conditions were met.

Asource in Jonathan’s camp had confirmed that the former Nigerian leader registered his membership with the ruling party at his Otuoke Ward in Bayelsa.

But the APC Chairman in the state, Dennis Otiotio, said Jonathan is not a member of the party, adding that he can only be a member if granted a waiver by the national chairman of the party, Adamu Abdullahi.

However, the chairman of APC in Ward 13, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Igori Freeman, in a different interview confirmed that Jonathan is indeed a member of the ruling party.

Freeman told Daily Trust on Thursday that Jonathan dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and registered with the party in 2019.

He stated that the former leader defected to the APC immediately after the 2019 governorship election in the state.
