“Britain Did Not Declare IPOB A Terrorist Group” – Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer Gives Fresh Opinion

The lawyer of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Aloy Ejimakor says contrary to widespread belief and reports, the UK has not designated IPOB as a terrorist group.

He made his stand on the viral matter known in a terse statement on Friday morning, Naija News reports.

His position comes as a reaction to an earlier report published by this online news platform that the government of the United Kingdom (UK) has labelled the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organization.

The recognition of IPOB as a terrorist group by the UK is contained in an updated policy statement on asylum released through the UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) on its website.

The policy updated in May 2022 says it agrees with the government of Nigeria which labelled IPOB and its militant arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) as terrorist organizations.

The UK government also blamed IPOB and ESN led by the arrested Nnamdi Kanu for the increasing violence and human rights violations in the southeast region of the country, ordering its visa officials to exclude members of the group from its asylum programme.

But Ejimakor said in his reaction via a tweet on Friday that IPOB was not declared a terrorist group by Britain according to the report on the country’s website.

He urged those who believe a ban has been slammed on the Biafra agitators by the UK government to read the report again.

“Britain DID NOT declare #IPOB a terrorist group. Sorry to disappoint those that have concluded otherwise.

“Read that Report again & be guided,” he tweeted.
