The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has stated that 172 persons have been rescued from the Abuja-Kaduna train attack.

It has been reported that the Managing Director of the corporation, Fidet Okhiria, made this known in a statement made available to reporters on Sunday.

Okhiria stated that two more passengers had been rescued, making the total of safe passengers 172, while 21 passengers are still missing.

The NRC boss sympathised with the injured passengers and everyone on board the AK9 train for the trauma the unfortunate incident has caused them.

He, however, disclosed that the NRC will collaborate with security agencies to rescue other missing passengers aboard the attacked train.

The statement reads: “The Corporation also confirms updates that a total of 172 passengers on board the train are safe and okay while 21 passengers are still reported missing.

Let us assure our esteemed passengers that the corporation in collaboration with the security agencies will leave no stone unturned in our efforts at rescuing the missing persons.

Once again, the Corporation deeply condoles with those who lost loved ones and pray for the repose of the lost souls.

We equally sincerely sympathise with our injured passengers and indeed everyone on board the AK9 train on Monday, March 28, for the trauma this unfortunate incident has caused you.”

Speaking on the repair work carried out on the train tracks, Okhiria said that four more coaches had been rerailed by the corporation as of April 2.

He added that five of the coaches have been safely moved to Idu and Rigasa stations respectively, bringing the total coaches so far rerailed to seven.

The NRC boss said the other two coaches were still at the site due to damaged tracks.

Okhiria asserted that a total of 80 meters of the affected section has been fixed including the replacement of affected sleepers and twisted rails.
