Power Minister, GenCos, Others Meet As Nigeria’s Grid Collapses

Due to the worsening electricity outage in the country, Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu has called an emergency meeting with the stakeholders in the power sector.

Aliyu called the parley to address the current low power generation which has caused epileptic supply across the nation.

Amid Monday’s grid failure, the minister told all in attendance to work together to make electricity more stable.

Present at the emergency meeting includes officials from the Generation Companies (GenCos), Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET).

Others are the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Shell and others in the power value chain.

“This meeting was summoned to address the current electricity situation in the country which we are not happy about”, Aliyu said.

“We must find a solution so that Nigerians will have electricity. I want us to have the patience to talk to each other, not blame each other.”

Aliyu assured that government will not relent in its efforts to make sure that improvements in the power sector are sustained so that electricity supply improves across Nigeria.

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) informed its customers of the grid shutdown.

“A system collapse has occurred on the national grid at 10:40 am today, leading to outages across our network.

“We are working on the situation with our TCN partners and will keep you updated. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused”, it reads.
