Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Thursday signed the anti-open grazing bill into law.
He signed the law barely two months after it scaled third and final reading at the State House of Assembly.
The State House of Assembly, had on July 8, 2021, passed the Animal Grazing Regulation and Cattle Ranch Establishment Bill 2020 into law.
The law puts offenders at the risk of three-year jail term.
It was reported that governor Abiodun is last governor to assent the controversial bill in South West.
Long title of the law reads “HB No. 045/OG/2021- A Law to Regulate Animal Grazing, Establishment of Cattles Ranches in Designated Grazing Areas of Ogun State and for other Matters incidental thereto and connected therewith.”
Abiodun gave assent to it on Thursday evening at Oke-Mosan Governor’s Office, Abeokuta, the State capital.
He also constituted an implementation Committee to be chaired by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Samson Odedina.
Members of the security agencies, Special Adviser to the governor on security, AIG Olusola Subair (retd) representatives of farmers/herders committee among others would also serve as members of the implementation committee.
