Residents of Imo State especially vehicle owners plying the popular Imo zoological Garden Nekede, world bank and MCC roads have continued to lament the poor condition of the roads in the state.

Some of the residents, who spoke with newsmen on Tuesday, said the bad state of the roads had caused them untold hardship.

A resident of the Old Nekede road in Owerri North Local Government Area, Iyke Iweajunwa said the road leading to Nekede zoo entrance is currently on the verge of tearing into two.

”The road which is very busy poses a major risk to the lives of commuters and the urgent response of the Imo State Government is needed to avert any future damage”, he averred.

He lamented that the bad state of the road had caused them losses in many ways and prevented them from easily connecting other areas of Owerri and beyond.

A landlady in one of the streets linking the World bank road, Owerri West LGA, Imo State, Mrs Angela Nkwoapulu explained that the World Bank road leading to Umuguma is gradually being washed away by flood.

She added that the road, which has “deep potholes,” ‎has plunged vehicle owners into untold hardship.

”’Many residents are not happy about this road. As a result of its deep potholes residents have to trek long distances especially when it rains, as they can not go with their vehicles,” she said.

She noted that several attempts to call the attention of the state government to rescue the community have yielded no positive results.

A commercial bus driver, Mr Peter Debia while speaking to newsmen at Chukwuma Nwoha junction by MCC Owerri said all the features that qualified the area and Toronto junction down to Ekemoha junction as a tarred road had been washed away.

Debia said, “I am a daily user of this road, I carry passengers from Ekeonuwa market to Umuore running few trips every day. The condition of this particular Chukwuma Nwoha junction is very bad and dangerous.”

We are begging Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State to do something about this road as fast as he can, even though it was started by Gov Emeka Ihedioha’s short-lived administration.”
