The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been apprehended by the federal government, News Agency of Nigeria reports.
Nnamdi Kanu had been on the run after jumping bail granted him by a court in Abuja. Kanu fled the country in September 2017 after an invasion of his home by the military in Afara-Ukwu, near Umuahia, Abia State.
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami announced this on Tuesday in Abuja, according to NAN.
At a joint press briefing on Tuesday with the State Security Service (SSS) in Abuja, Mr Malami disclosed that international collaborative efforts with security agencies led to Mr Kanu’s arrest and repatriation to Nigeria.
Mr Kanu, who left the country mysteriously after Nigerian soldiers attacked his countryhome in Abia State had been under prosecution by the federal government for treason.
