Kidnapped Female Journalist, Isa-Mbamba, Regains Freedom

The News Editor with Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Mrs. Amrah Ahmed, who was kidnapped last week, has regained her freedom.

Mrs. Ahmed, a nursing mother who was separated from her 6-month-old baby by the kidnappers, was allowed to return home in the early hours of Wednesday.

The female journalist was abducted from her home in Mbamba, a suburb of Yola Town in Yola South local government area, on the night of May 4.

Little was said by the family regarding the abduction over the eight-day stretch of it, but the news broke Wednesday that she was released in the early hours of the day and she had joined her family.

Amrah’s husband, Ahmad Isa, who broke the news of her release, would not say whether the ransom was paid.

A statement released by Secretary of the Adamawa State Council of the NUJ, Fidelis Jonathan, said, “Mrs. Amrah has reunited with her family since the early hours of today, Wednesday, 12th May 2021.

“The council commends the magnanimity and endurance of her husband and the extended family. The council equally appreciates the National president of NUJ, Chief Chris Isiguzo and the entire National Secretariat for standing by the Adamawa council during the solemn moment.

The union’s gratitude also goes to members of all NUJ nine chapels in Adamawa, NAWOJ, FOMWAN, CAN-Women wing, NCWS, associate members, and religious leaders as well as individuals for their support and prayers.”
