#EndSARS: Operation Crocodile Smile VI begins as protests continue

The Nigerian Army will begin a military exercise, Operation Crocodile Smile, nationwide, today.

A press statement released last week confirmed the yearly exercise will hold from October 20 to December 31, 2020.

However, this year, the Army has expanded the scope to include cyber warfare exercises, which seeks to identify, track and counter negative propaganda on social media and across cyberspace.

Although the Army has maintained that the exercise is not targeted at #EndSARS protesters, there is tension across the country.

Nigerians have been protesting police brutality, extortion and extra-judicial killings for more than 10 days.

On Monday, the situation escalated in Benin City, the Edo state capital, with several police posts attacked and at least two jailbreaks.

It led to a 24-hour curfew being imposed in the State.

There is a firm belief that hoodlums have now hijacked the protests and the Army may be called upon to handle the situation.
