The presidency has finally opened up on the ordeals faced by the recently suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.
A source in the presidency who recently spoke with state house correspondents in Abuja on the issue pointed out that the series of interrogation faced by Magu is aimed at clearing him from the many allegations he is facing, PM News reports.
The source added that that the suspended EFCC acting boss is on a hot seat proves that nobody under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is above investigation.
He went on to say that this goes to show that the current administration is poised to uproot every structure of corruption in the country, even if it requires stepping on toes.
The anonymous source said: “Under the Muhammadu Buhari administration, nobody is above scrutiny. The investigation is to reinforce transparency and accountability, rather than to vitiate it.
“Accountability for our actions or inactions is an inalienable part of democracy. In such an elevated position as that of EFCC Chairman, the holder of the position must be above suspicion.
“There’s no prejudgment – absolutely none. The Buhari administration can be counted on to uphold fairness and justice at all times.”
Meanwhile, presidency has confirmed that Magu was invited by a presidential panel for questioning. A presidential aide, Garba Shehu, informed journalists that Magu was invited so that he can respond to issues as they arise.
