Offa Robbery: Police Summoned Me To Prevent Senators From Leaving APC

Senate President Bukola Saraki has accused the police of summoning him because of the plot by some senators to defect from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said that the July 23 letter written to him by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, requesting him to appear in person on Tuesday, July 24 over the Offa Bank Robbery was only a ploy to intimidate the senators and block their defection.

Recall that the police had said that arrested suspects identified Saraki and the Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed as their backers.

The suspects who claimed to be political thugs of the duo, allegedly said that Saraki and Ahmed bought the arms that they used to prosecute the robbery on commercial banks in Offa, Kwara State, which left 33 persons dead, including nine policemen.

Saraki represents Kwara Central senatorial district in the National Assembly.

The IG’s letter reportedly stated that, “the Senate President supplies arms and money to the thugs; that everyone in Kwara Central fear them because of their guns and ability to kill anybody without hesitation. ”

But the senate president continues to maintain his innocence, accusing the police of being political with the case.
